What Will Happen at the Shaping America’s Youth Town Meeting?
1,000 residents of the local community will come together to discuss nutrition and physical activity in young people.

Part of the day will focus on developing recommendations to address the issue on a national level, and the other part of the day will be spent talking about local strategies. We have been working closely with local leaders and our local hosts to identify critical local concerns for discussion.

We will:

  • Work in groups of 10, seated comfortably at a table
  • Participate in a focused conversation on the issues led by a trained facilitator
  • Use information that has been gathered about our community to help guide discussions
  • Record thoughts and ideas on an easy-to-use laptop computer
  • Ideas recorded on the computers will be sent electronically to a group of people reading the information and looking for common ideas and themes
  • The common themes gathered from tables will be presented back to everyone in the room
  • Each person uses a keypad to vote on the most important themes
  • The recommendations we develop during the day will be organized into a report that will be passed out to all participants at the end of the meeting
